Thompson Rome, the first Italian hotel under the Thompson Hotels brand, part of Hyatt's lifestyle portfolio, has officially opened. Owned and managed by AG Group Srl and Rossifin Group, the property marks the brand's entry into the Italian market, a debut Qualitytravel had already anticipated last February, with an opening scheduled for this spring .
The new hotel is located on Via delle Botteghe Oscure, in the heart of Rome, centrally located near Piazza Venezia, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, and the Colosseum. The renovation involved a building dating back to the 1940s, reinterpreted through a project that combines original architecture, contemporary design, art, and dining.
During the renovation, several historic elements of the building were recovered, including a marble staircase. The renovation also brought to light a sculptural wall and an inlaid floor designed by Gio Pomodoro, hidden for decades and now integrated into the hotel's spaces.
"Rome has such a strong identity that we wanted to take the city itself as the starting point for Thompson Rome," said Amar Lalvani, Chief Creative Officer of Hyatt Corporation and President & Creative Director of The Lifestyle Group, Hyatt. "The building, the neighborhood, the cuisine, the people, and the Roman customs all helped define the hotel's soul. We wanted to create a Thompson that feels at home in Rome, a place travelers long to discover and Romans long to return to."
69 rooms and 20 suites in the center of Rome
Thompson Rome has a total of 69 rooms and suites. The 20 suites represent almost a third of the accommodations and include Junior Suites, rooms with a patio or terrace, and the Thompson Suite, which measures 104 square meters and features a private 19 square meter terrace.
The interiors feature natural materials, warm tones, and custom-made furnishings. Some rooms overlook Via delle Botteghe Oscure, while others have private balconies and patios overlooking the historic fabric of central Rome.
"Rome is discovered over time, through its neighborhoods, its art, and, above all, its people. We want guests to connect with this facet of the city from the moment they arrive at Thompson Rome," explained Arturo Gomez, the hotel's General Manager. "Discovering the works exhibited throughout the hotel, sharing an aperitivo with friends on the rooftop, or enjoying an experience recommended by our team: we hope each of these opportunities will become the ideal starting point for discovering Rome in a more personal way. At the same time, we hope that for those who live in the city, the hotel will become a gathering place they will return to often."
